Our Story

The concept for Herd & Hive was born in my family’s kitchen in early 2020 when we began following a mostly animal based diet – rich in meat and fat, cheese, bone broth and dairy. With an abundance of cooking fat such as tallow and lard on hand, and unexpected free time due to the pandemic, I began to play with the idea of extending the use of the cooking fat into a pioneer style, old fashioned candle.

After a solid year of experimentation to create the perfect candle, we launched our business in 2021 with just our flagship product – the tallow and beeswax pillar. Since then, we’ve expanded our product line to include an all purpose skin balm, fire starters, and raw cosmetics tallow.

For five years, we have served our loyal customers and their families with the highest quality handmade tallow goods. We source only from the best local, grass-fed and finished regenerative farms in Ontario, Canada.

To date, we are one of the only companies in the world that produce tallow pillar candles. We also have one of the largest selections of tallow products of any North American business. We look forward to becoming your new supplier of all things tallow!
