Small Tallow Pillar Candle 2" x 3"
These one-of-a-kind pillar candles are made using locally sourced ingredients including triple rendered grass fed beef tallow and unrefined beeswax as well as a pure cotton wick. These candles are unscented, clean burning, sustainable, and long lasting which makes them ideal to keep on hand for emergencies and power outages, parties and weddings, and on the homestead.
Our tallow candles have only a faint scent of beeswax - no beefy smell! In the event of an emergency, these unscented candles will prove valuable - animal fat burns very hot, meaning our candles are much brighter than pure beeswax candles.
With your order of any candle product, we include a detailed candle care page - please pay close attention to these instructions, as tallow candles require a little extra love and trimming to get the most burn time possible.
When you get to the very bottom of your candle, you can melt it down back into a fresh candle or you can simply toss the bottom puck into the compost pile.
*While the tallow and beeswax are both local, the cotton wicking and some of the packaging is sourced from the USA. Our jute bags are made by a fellow Canadian, however jute itself does not grow domestically and is imported!*
Large - 2.5 x 5 inch - 13.1 oz. - 45-50 hours burn time
Small - 2 x 3 inch - 5.6oz. - 15-20 hours burn time
Tallow (beef fat) and other animal fats were traditionally used by our ancestors to make candles, eventually falling out of favor when other waxes became available such as paraffin, soy, and palm. These new waxes carry a heavy burden on the environment and our health.
Suet is the hard, white fat found around the kidneys and loins of a cow and is what tallow is made from. Unfortunately, suet is not a high demand product these days and as a result, is often thrown out. We're excited to be able to bring you a useful, zero waste product that helps to support local farmers and beekeepers as well!
